Chief Executive Officer
CFO
Growing up in South African I was exposed to a diverse range pf people. poverty, suffering and deprivation at a very early age. As far back as I can remember I always wanted to have a career that did some good and would contribute something back to society. My chosen career however, as a number cruncher, is not the type of job that has a direct or a hands-on approach in making a difference to anything. I have therefore always endeavored to work in a sector that has an ethos of doing good and doing something that “gives back” or adds value in its own way.
When I first came to the UK 21 years ago, I was fortunate enough to work as Group FD of a renewable energy business for over 10 years. We led the way by working with councils to implement recycling of household food waste and turning that food waste into green energy reducing the countries reliance on coal by a significant amount. I was very passionate about what we did and the impact this had on the environment.
When I left the renewable energy sector, I worked with a large portfolio of businesses for a number of years, but I never really had the same passion that I had working for the renewable energy organisation until I got a contract working for a healthcare business. It reminded me of the pledge I made to myself so many years ago. The passion reignited in me knowing that I was working for a business that really touches so many individuals and makes a big difference to people’s lives. Working with a diverse range of people such as you are exposed to in healthcare and being involved in an organisation that can make such a significant difference to individuals is something that I am very passionate about and hope that the role I do in BR can add value and make a difference in its own way.
Director of Business Development
From an early age I have always had a desire to work in a people facing role, that would provide me with a strong sense of purpose and where I could make a difference. I worked as a Support Worker whilst at university, and my goal at the time was to become a Forensic Psychologist. For several reasons I took a slightly different path, but I have worked in care for the last 10 years and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!
As a sector we have faced extremely challenging times over the last few years, but what keeps me motivated is knowing that we are undoubtedly making a positive impact on peoples lives. There remains 2000+ people still stuck in inpatient settings, and my role in Business Development enables me to play a part in supporting an individual’s journey to increased independence- which is I find really fulfilling.
Another element of my work that motivates me is the relationships I build; whether that be with external professionals, colleagues or the people we support. I love spending time in services – it never fails to put a smile on my face and remind me why we do what we do!
It’s really important to me to be part of an organisation who’s values align with my own, and it was clear to me from my first conversation with Blue Ribbon that was the case. I too believe everyone matters and that creating a positive culture, where people feel valued, enables us to bring our authentic selves to work each day. I have so much passion for what I do, and I operate with honesty and integrity. I also like to have fun whilst doing so, and I’m really excited to join a team who not only shares my values, but who are equally as committed to providing high quality care.
Director of Quality and Risk Management
Over forty years ago, I embarked on a journey that would shape the entirety of my professional life. Trained as a nurse, my first encounter with the world of social care occurred on the wards for older people. From that very first day, I found myself captivated by the profound impact I could have in the role of helping others. It was as if I had discovered my purpose, my raison d’être.
For many years, I dedicated myself to the care of older individuals, cherishing the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. However, it wasn’t until almost eleven years ago that I found myself transitioning into a new realm of social care, one that resonated with me on a deeper level. Working with individuals with learning disabilities and mental health needs, I felt as though I had finally found my place in the world. It was a space where empathy, understanding, and advocacy intertwined to create a profound sense of fulfillment.
What drives me in my work is the unwavering belief in the potential for positive change. Despite national trends indicating worse outcomes for individuals with disabilities, I remain steadfast in my commitment to enabling them to lead lives that are happier, more independent, and healthier. It’s not merely about providing care; it’s about empowering individuals to realise their full potential, to defy the odds stacked against them, and to embrace a future filled with hope and possibility.
Every day, I am reminded of the profound impact that compassionate care and support can have on the lives of those we serve. It is a privilege to walk alongside individuals on their journey towards greater autonomy and fulfillment. As I reflect on my career spanning four decades, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others—a calling that continues to inspire and motivate me each and every day. This is #MYWHY, the driving force behind my unwavering dedication to the field of social care.
Head of LD
In 2001, I started working in Health and Social Care as a support worker, I had little experience of working in the sector but had been inspired by My Mum who had worked in the industry for many years, who was and still is a huge advocate for the rights of people with learning disabilities and autism. On one of the very first training sessions that I attended I remember we learned about the history of people with disabilities and at that moment I realised that I wanted to be part of something that ensured that people rights were advocated, supported and championed!
I am excited to be joining Blue Ribbon as the vision, mission and values for the organisation aligns with my own professional and personal perspectives. During my interview I was inspired by the enthusiasm and energy that Charlotte Smith showed in terms of the future of Blue Ribbon, and I wanted in!
Head of People and Engagement
My journey in the care sector began with a temporary position through a temp agency, initially assigned to a 2-week administrative role. The company specialised in providing care and support to individuals with learning disabilities. Over the course of more than a year, I navigated various administrative functions across different departments, a testament to my adaptability and commitment.
A turning point arrived when a permanent Administrative role opened within the Human
Resources Department, and I was selected to fill it. This opportunity significantly broadened my understanding of people management and highlighted the impact that effective leadership and guidance can have on the quality of support offered to vulnerable individuals. I worked my way through different roles in HR, while completing a Masters in HR Management each time learning more about the benefits of good people management.
Now, as the Head of People Engagement with Blue Ribbon, my direct involvement in hands- on care may be minimal, but my passion for refining our support functions is unwavering. My role enables me to ensure that we have the right individuals in place, fostering an environment where exemplary care and support for our vulnerable adults is not just possible but guaranteed. Through encouragement and empowerment, my team and I play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of care provided. By coaching and mentoring managers on effective team management, I find deep satisfaction in knowing that our efforts contribute to the highest standard of support for those we serve. It is incredibly rewarding to play even a small part in the lives of others, assisting them in achieving their goals with the support of our dedicated team each day.

#MYWHY holds a profound significance for me, especially in the context of my work here at Blue Ribbon. From a very young age, my parents became foster carers (and still are into their early 60s), instilling in me the fundamental belief that caring for others is key in life. This upbringing has shaped my values and fueled my passion for making a positive impact on the well-being of others.
While my role may not be on the front lines of care, my journey in the Health and Social Care sector has been as a dedicated Human Resources professional for the past 20 years. This unique perspective has allowed me to contribute to the culture of care by ensuring that the compassionate ethos extends to every aspect of the organisations that I have worked for.
Being a part of Blue Ribbon, an organisation committed to compassion and support, aligns perfectly with my upbringing and professional values.
The essence of my WHY revolves around the profound impact that genuine care can have on someone’s life. Whether it’s aiding those in need, offering a listening ear, or contributing to the overall well-being of individuals, I find immense fulfilment in knowing that my efforts, even in a behind-the-scenes role, make a positive difference.
The shared purpose within our team at Blue Ribbon amplifies this impact, creating a collaborative environment where our collective dedication to care becomes a driving force.
What motivates me daily is the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of our staff, ensuring that they, in turn, can provide the best possible care to those we support.
